4th of July Glitter Jeans and T-Shirt

I'm sad to announce that I didn't make it into the top 5 at one crafty contest.
To see who did click here.
It was so much fun being a part of One Crafty Contest.  It challenged me to complete my paint project on time and work with products I have never used before like washi tape.  The challenge for round 5 was glitter I created this 4th of July outfit for my daughter.  I think I may make coordinating outfits for my other kids.

Here are some behind the scenes pictures!

star stencil transfer

I made a star stencil by printing a star graphic.  Then I traced it with crayon and layed the image face down on a file folder.    I could of printed the image on card stock but that would of been too easy :)

I traced along the outline of the stars with a pencil.  It left an image that I was able to cut out with scissors.  You may be wondering why I didn't use my Cricut?  Well, I left it at my mother's house.

I used spray adhesive to temporarily stick the stars to the jeans. Then I traced around the stars with a paint marker and removed the stencil. I used painter's tape to layout the stripes.

Then, using a small paint brush, I brushed Mod Podge on the areas where I wanted the glitter.

I chose the word beautiful because it best describes America (America the Beautiful).  I printed the lettering on to a iron on transfer (you can buy them by the computer printer paper) and trimmed around the letters.

I followed the instructions to apply the transfer.

Then using Mod Podge and a paint brush, I carefully painted each letter.

Then I covered the Mod Podge with glitter.

Then to tie the shirt and jeans together I added a star.

The outfit by itself was cute but It needed a little more to make it shine!  Thanks to my daughter for being my model.

  13. oh wow, those are amazing! I'd be interested to know how well they wash though. If you put them in your machine will everything come out covered in glitter for the next 6 months?

    1. I finally washed the jeans. Most of it came off while she was wearing them. It didn't make the next load sparkle. I guess I'll have to reapply the glitter. Maybe I can put ModPodge made for fabric on top of the glitter?
