Free Printable: Daily Hanger Tags

Back to school is here and I am doing my best to keep everyone organized.  My husband and I both work and now all 4 kids are in school.  It takes a lot of preparation to get every one out the door in the morning.  I find that one of the most challenging task is finding something (suitable) to wear.  I created these Daily Hanger Tags, that hang on the kids clothes hangers.  They really help the family get ready in the morning, without losing our minds.  Planning ahead is the key, no more running around hoping there is something clean in the dryer to wear.  I hope you find this free printable useful. Please feel free to share with your friends and don't forget to link back to callie'scrafts.blogspot.com

DIY Crown Moulding Shelf

For the 8 months we have lived in this house I have been at a loss at what to do with my daughter's room.  She is the oldest and has her own space, for now.  Her room has high vaulted ceilings, a plant ledge, and a large window.  Although these features are beautiful, I have to admit, they are intimidating.  What her room is lacking is functionality.  She needs more floor space, more shelf space and some pretty things to look at.  I finally have a plan for my daughter's room.  The first step is adding decorative storage with a wall length crown moulding ledge shelf.  I was able to build this 11' shelf for about $20.00!

Mixin' it up in the kitchen

It has been a week since my last post and there have been a lot of changes going on around here. Today, I want to share my kitchen entry way.  I painted the entryway from the garage Whispering Wind by Olympic.  It is also the same color I painted the Master Bedroom.   I wanted to make a statement with color but not with paint.  I painted the mirror teal and added bright colored flowers.  I placed colored glass bottles (from Kirkland's) and a framed picture to add color on the shelf.  It really brightens up the entry and my mood.

A Diamond in the Rough

It's taken me more that 2 months but I've finally finished it.  Do you remember the stool I found in November at a yard sale?  See my yard sale finds here.  I knew you wouldn't recognize her.  This neglected beauty needed a little care and after a little sanding, staining, painting and reupholstering she looks better than ever.  Just look at those legs!

Valentine Holder Craft

I haven't posted in a few days because my whole family is sick with the flu.  I haven't had time to make a post or work on any projects.  I managed to find time to try a few crafts yesterday.  One was a fail and one turned out great.

My son needs a Valentine Holder for his class party.  I didn't want to spend any money (I can't really go to the store right now) so I used things I already had.

Paper Doile, 2 Sheets of Paper, Mod Podge, Empty Formula Can

I removed the label from the can and cut the paper to size.  Then I brushed Mod Podge onto the can and applied the paper.

I brushed Mod Podge on the outside of the paper and applied the paper doilie.  For the final step I brushed Mod Podge onto the outside of the doile.  Adding Mod Podge to the outside of the paper creates a protective layer.

When It was dry I added his name and cut a hole in the lid.

What other uses have you found for formula cans?

Hide Away Ironing Board

For our family there has never been the perfect place to iron.   The ironing board was always left out and in the way.  This year is going to be different thanks to my thoughtful parents.  They gave us an in-wall ironing board for Christmas and I couldn't be more excited!

The ironing board folds down and there is also enough room to store the iron.  We chose to put it in our bathroom close to our closet for convenience.

Family Room Media Center

This year my to do list is all about organization.  My next (Husband Assisted) DIY project is an media center. When we first moved into our house I placed the t.v. on top of a sofa table, just to make do.  I need some where to store the movies and games and hide the wires.

Family Room Before

I knew that I wanted something modern.  So, naturally, I looked to Google for ideas.
Here are a few that I found.

Singing the Blues

When I found this jewelry armoire it was singing the blues.  It was so lonely at my neighbor's yard sale.  I offered to bring it home with me and after a long negotiation process we settled on a price, FREE!!
I have the best neighbor.
The jewelry armoire has a laminate finish and is not real wood.  That means I can't strip and sand it.  It is in great condition, no scratches or chips.  I knew chalk paint would be the best paint to refinish it.  With chalk paint you can paint virtually any surface with out sanding.   I used CeCe Caldwell's Chalk Paint.
The color I chose is called Memphis Blue.   This name reminds me of Elvis
and he was the inspiration for this piece.

Here are some pictures of the painting process.

After the paint is dry I used a damp rag and rubbed in areas that I wanted a distressed look.  (most ly the edges and a few places on the legs.  Next, I applied the clear wax with a brush.  The paint darkens after the clear wax is applied.

While the clear wax is wet I applied the dark wax.  I concentrated on the decorative areas.

I want to tell you that this next part was part of the original plan but sometimes creativity comes from necessity.  I didn't have enough paint for the drawers and chalk paint isn't sold locally!  I didn't want to wait so.....................................I spray painted the drawers.

I used plastic wrap and painters tape to cover the areas that I didn't want painted.  Then I primed and painted the drawers.
Kilz Primer : Krylon Gloss Ivory
I painted the hardware a gold color called Caramel Latte

I am so exited with how it turned out.  My armoire no longer sings the blues.
