Rosette Head Band Tutorial

I made my girls coordinating headbands to match their dresses.
The headbands are all unique, just like my girls.

To make the Rosette head band you will need the following items:

wired ribbon (you could sew a gathering stitch to regular ribbon)
hot glue and glue gun
head band
button

sheer spiral ribbon

The amount of ribbon needed varies depending on the size of flower you want.  For this flower I used about 20 inches.

Pull the wire on one side of the ribbon to make a gather.  The ribbon naturally begins to curl.

Next, use a small dot of glue to secure the ribbon in place.

Glue the button to the front of the flower and then glue the flower to headband.

It really is that easy!  Now go have fun crafting!

Family Room Media Center

This year my to do list is all about organization.  My next (Husband Assisted) DIY project is an media center. When we first moved into our house I placed the t.v. on top of a sofa table, just to make do.  I need some where to store the movies and games and hide the wires.

Family Room Before

I knew that I wanted something modern.  So, naturally, I looked to Google for ideas.
Here are a few that I found.

Here is my design.

Singing the Blues

When I found this jewelry armoire it was singing the blues.  It was so lonely at my neighbor's yard sale.  I offered to bring it home with me and after a long negotiation process we settled on a price, FREE!!
I have the best neighbor.
The jewelry armoire has a laminate finish and is not real wood.  That means I can't strip and sand it.  It is in great condition, no scratches or chips.  I knew chalk paint would be the best paint to refinish it.  With chalk paint you can paint virtually any surface with out sanding.   I used CeCe Caldwell's Chalk Paint.
The color I chose is called Memphis Blue.   This name reminds me of Elvis
and he was the inspiration for this piece.

After the paint is dry I used a damp rag and rubbed in areas that I wanted a distressed look.  (most ly the edges and a few places on the legs.  Next, I applied the clear wax with a brush.  The paint darkens after the clear wax is applied.

While the clear wax is wet I applied the dark wax.  I concentrated on the decorative areas.

I want to tell you that this next part was part of the original plan but sometimes creativity comes from necessity.  I didn't have enough paint for the drawers and chalk paint isn't sold locally!  I didn't want to wait so.....................................I spray painted the drawers.

I used plastic wrap and painters tape to cover the areas that I didn't want painted.  Then I primed and painted the drawers.
Kilz Primer : Krylon Gloss Ivory
I painted the hardware a gold color called Caramel Latte

I am so exited with how it turned out.  My armoire no longer sings the blues.

A deal I couldn't refuse.

I was at Home Depot helping a friend find the perfect paint color.  When the employee at the paint counter looked in to our shopping cart and said to us, "I see you like deals."  I thought to myself,  "Why yes, yes I do."   She directed us to the front of the store to a clearance section.  There, I found something I didn't know I needed!  It was a deal I couldn't refuse.  Two counter height barstools.  Originally $99.99, Now $29.99.  At Homedepot.com they are still $49.99.
