Antique Vanity with Mirror More Yard Sale Finds

I hate to show you the junk (future projects) and toys in my garage but you have to see what I found at a garage sale.  Isn't it beautiful?  The lady let it go for just $45.00!  I'm not sure how I'm going to refinish this vanity!  I just knew that I had to have it!

Here are a few vanity makeovers that I've found.  Click the picture to visit the source!

So what do you think?  Do you have any vanity that you have refinished?  I'd love to see it, leave a link in the comments.

Mod Podge & Paper Butterflies Lamp Shade

I can mark another project off the list for my daughter's room.  Only 3 more until it's complete, maybe.  I found this great little lamp for my daughter's room at Dollar General!  I saw a blank slate and knew I could find something crafty to do to it.  A stencil?  Some ruffles?  How about flowers?

How about Mod Podge?

Spray Painted Candle Sconce

I found this beautiful wall sconce for $2 at a yard sale.  I wasn't sure where I would use it but I love swirls!  I am not crazy about brass but I have the fix for that (spray paint).

I decided to use it in the master bedroom.  I have light grey, almost white, walls and I am using metallics as my accent colors.  The curtains have a hint of gold.  I used the same color paint as the hardware on the jewelry armoire I put in our bathroom.  I love having having candle wall sconces.  They really add a great deal of light in case of a power outage.  We have a lot of severe weather in the South.

Thanks for reading.  If you like it be sure to follow Callie's Crafts!

A Diamond in the Rough

It's taken me more that 2 months but I've finally finished it.  Do you remember the stool I found in November at a yard sale?  See my yard sale finds here.  I knew you wouldn't recognize her.  This neglected beauty needed a little care and after a little sanding, staining, painting and reupholstering she looks better than ever.  Just look at those legs!

Singing the Blues

When I found this jewelry armoire it was singing the blues.  It was so lonely at my neighbor's yard sale.  I offered to bring it home with me and after a long negotiation process we settled on a price, FREE!!
I have the best neighbor.
The jewelry armoire has a laminate finish and is not real wood.  That means I can't strip and sand it.  It is in great condition, no scratches or chips.  I knew chalk paint would be the best paint to refinish it.  With chalk paint you can paint virtually any surface with out sanding.   I used CeCe Caldwell's Chalk Paint.
The color I chose is called Memphis Blue.   This name reminds me of Elvis
and he was the inspiration for this piece.

Here are some pictures of the painting process.

After the paint is dry I used a damp rag and rubbed in areas that I wanted a distressed look.  (most ly the edges and a few places on the legs.  Next, I applied the clear wax with a brush.  The paint darkens after the clear wax is applied.

While the clear wax is wet I applied the dark wax.  I concentrated on the decorative areas.

I want to tell you that this next part was part of the original plan but sometimes creativity comes from necessity.  I didn't have enough paint for the drawers and chalk paint isn't sold locally!  I didn't want to wait so.....................................I spray painted the drawers.

I used plastic wrap and painters tape to cover the areas that I didn't want painted.  Then I primed and painted the drawers.
Kilz Primer : Krylon Gloss Ivory
I painted the hardware a gold color called Caramel Latte

I am so exited with how it turned out.  My armoire no longer sings the blues.

Planning my Living Room

Living Room To Do:

Paint Walls
Beadboard Wallpaper
Stencil Walls
Reupholster Chairs
Curtains
Build Keyboard Stand
Paint and Recover Bench

The Living Room is on the front of the house and has large arched openings and a large window.  It is open to the foyer and the family room so I really want the 3 rooms to coordinate.  I painted the walls the same color as the kitchen and family room to give it a cohesive look. (Montpelier Ashlar Grey by Valspar) To give it a fresh look I put up white bead board wall paper under the chair rail. View post here.

To finish off the walls I want to stencil the top in grey and white.  While searching Google for stencils I found Cutting Edge Stencils.  There are so many great stencils to choose from, but I've managed to narrow it down to two of my favorites.  The pictures below came from their gallery.

Harlequin Trellis
Hourglass

Do you remember these great yard sale finds?  Click here to view post. They will find a home in this room once they are reupholstered.

Here are the fabrics that I'm considering.  They are from Premier Fabrics.
The final selection will be dependent on which stencil I choose.  I think the trellis stencil will go best with the striped fabric and I could make coordinating pillows with the media fabric.  On the otherhand, the hourglass stencil will go best with the Kimono fabric and I could make coordinating pillows with the Dottie fabric.

Premier Prints:  Accord black/white - Media black/white

Premier Prints:  Kimono black/white - Dottie black/white

I will use the coordinating fabric on this storage bench.

This room has a window 8 feet tall and 12 foot ceilings.
Here is an idea of what I want for the window.  I want the curtains in the Living Room to coordinate with the accent wall in the Family Room.

I love to do things myself and I try to do things for low or no cost.  I especially love free software like this room planner on Ashley Furniture's website.  It is great because you can adjust the size of the room and all the furniture.  I used it to create the plans below.
Option #1
Option # 2

I can't decide and I would like your opinion.  Which would you choose?  Leave a comment telling me your favorite stencil, fabric and room design.

Beadboard Wallpaper in Living Room

This is a paintable textured wallpaper I bought at Lowes.  This was my first time hanging wall paper.  I followed the instructions on the packaging and it was easy.  Just make sure to use the recommended tools on the packaging.  Also, make sure your Exacto knife is sharp.

Here are a few pictures I took during the process.

This is my temporary set up until I upholster my yard sale chairs.

This is the listing picture.  I am really bad at taking before pictures.
