No more holy pants!

jeans with holes cut to make shorts
My daughter has worn out her jeans.  The holes in one pair are so large she can put her legs through them!   The weather will soon be warm and she will be trading her jeans for shorts.  So now do I have to buy new shorts?  I don't think so.  I have a great idea to transform her jeans.  It wouldn't be fair to keep all my great ideas for myself!   Keep reading and I'll show you how I gave these jeans a new life.

I went to my fabric hoard and found a pink and green paisley printed cotton.  I wanted my cuff to be about 2" wide so I cut my fabric width to about 4".   To determine the length I measured around the leg and added 1" for the seam allowance.

Next, fold the fabric in half and stitch over the unfinished edge.
Tip:  I used a zig-zag stitch on the shortest stitch length and the widest setting.

Double check the length and eye ball pin where you will sew the seam.

Sew a 1/2" seam using a straight stitch.  Then sew a zig-zag stitch along the stitch line and trim the fabric.  I added a a decorative zig-zag stitch along the folded edge.

Place the cuff on the inside of the pant leg and match up the seams.  Pin to secure.

Then stitch a 1/2" seam.

Turn the cuff right side out and iron the fold.
Tip:  I did a small stitch on the outside seam to secure the cuff in place.

Repeat the above process on the other leg.
