Glitter Round 3

Our Yard : Early Summer June 2013

I didn't think to take before pictures, here is the listing picture from last year.

Our house sits on 3/4 of an acre.  The front yard is about 1/3 of it and the back is the other half.  I love to work and create in the flower bed but first I had to do a little rearranging.  I started by taking out all the juniper ground cover.  I love the look of mulch and I'm scared of what's lurking under the ground cover.  Then we removed the crape myrtle tree.  It was planted to close to the house.   I removed 3 bushes that were not in good health.  I left the boxwood and nandina shrubs, for now.  I dug up the monkey grass that was planted in two straight rows.  Then I replanted it to follow the curve of the side walk.  I added phlox that bloomed early spring.  I also planted lantana, in red and yellow, it will attract butterflies and bees.  Which are good for the fruit trees and berry bushes we just planted.

We planted a cherry tree in the front yard and built a tree ring.

Once again I have to use a listing picture because I didn't take before pictures.

We removed the large bush, the pampas grass and the rocks.  Yes, even the rocks!  It was a lot of work too.

We wanted to make the most out of this space and it wasn't being used to it's full potential.  So we planted 5 beautiful blueberry bushes.

Here's a shot from the other side.

The bushes already have berries!

When we were looking for houses my husband wanted a house with enough land for fruit trees.  We planted 3 right after we moved in and this spring he planted 10 more including peaches, pears, plums, cherries, and apples!  We now have an orchard.  One of the trees we planted last year is already producing fruit!

A third of our lot is wooded and the underbrush is cleared out.  This memorial day weekend my husband and the kids went on a camp out, in our own back yard (can you see the tent?)

Well back to work! I  hope you enjoyed the tour of our yard.

  1. Wow Callie, your home is gorgeous, the brick is awesome. In Grand Junction, CO area your home would go for at least $600,000. Yeah. It's really high here. Your home reminds me great deal of one our oldest son built in KY with that brick, just love colors of the brick. You and your hubs have made your land so pretty, lots of work huh?
We had acre and half in Ky (north of Bowling Green area), I so miss our green grass and the old trees. I could look out the back and see the yard, so pretty. We had a stream running between our place and farm land next to us. Think we only had to water maybe twice in 5 yrs. Wish we could have stayed there but the climate was horrendous on my health, asthma, allergies and arthritis. Think we paid $55,000 for the land and a completely remodeled home. Our son bought it, remodeled it then sold to us. We had a big front porch,ah shucks I'm homesick for it.
Loved your lavender dresser, you have a good hand and lots of talent, the color in that room is so pretty. Enjoy rest of week and upcoming weekend. Enjoy

    1. Thank you for you kind comment. Brick homes are very common here in the south. Luckily our house didn't cost anywhere near that much. We searched hard for a house with enough land to have trees and berries. It takes a lot of work but it will be worth it when the fruit is ready to harvest. Thanks for visiting. Come back soon.

  2. Oh my gosh Callie, your house and yard are gorgeous. You put a lot of work into the gardens. They look fantastic. I think I have yard envy. LOL Someday I hope to have a yard big enough to plant fruit trees and camp out in.
